Fairy Tales Through a Gender Lens Blog

`Fairy tales are a great medium that often showcase the multimodelness of the human experience. The majority of us read fairy tales as children and rarely consider the lessons and topics they contain. For centuries, children have been captivated by stories like Hansel and Gretel, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Little Red Riding Hood. However, these stories also carry messages about appropriate behaviour for both boys and girls. Before studying this module, I only ever interpreted these fairytales as simple stories. However examining them through the lens of gender has made it clear to me how they influence ideas of power, beauty, bravery, and loyalty.I will explore these well-known stories from a new perspective and reveal the gender norms they conceal in this blog.
